Yoshikatsu Ikeuchi moves between music and painting, building quiet, atmospheric worlds that often feel suspended between recognition and disappearance.
His work rarely asks for attention loudly. Instead, it stays with you slowly — through blurred light, stillness, and images that seem to sit somewhere between a real place and a remembered one.
We’re drawn to work that you feel before you fully understand, and Ikeuchi’s paintings have that quality.
There is something cinematic about them, but also deeply personal. A landscape or fragment of light can feel familiar even when you’ve never seen it before. The image is there, but never completely fixed.
That tension between clarity and memory is what made us want to work with him.
His World
Ikeuchi began releasing music while still in high school and later expanded his practice into visual art. Today, the two mediums continue to shape one another.
His paintings carry the pacing of music: quiet pauses, repetition, atmosphere, and emotion that develops gradually rather than all at once.
Across his work, light becomes almost like a memory itself — something present, fleeting, and difficult to hold onto.
Remnant of Light x OOi
For our first object together, we worked with Ikeuchi’s painting Remnant of Light.
Rather than simply printing the artwork across a notebook cover, we wanted the object to reflect the way the painting itself feels: partially revealed, slightly distant, and never entirely available at once.
The artwork sits beneath a cut-out cover, allowing only fragments of the image to appear depending on how you hold it.
It became a notebook about keeping something that might otherwise disappear.
